Characteristics
Larimar is a semi-precious stone, a type of pectolite, with a striking range of colors that goes from white to deep blue, passing through countless shades, such as sea green or sky blue.
Although many pectolites have been found in various places around the world, none have the coloration of larimar. This blue color, different from other rocks, is the result of a substitution of calcium for copper.
It was discovered in 1974, when the Dominican jeweler Miguel Méndez found it and named it in honor of his daughter, Larissa, and the color of the sea. Hence its name, larimar.
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic.
